MIIS Alumni Forum

The idea was thrown out to create an area where MIIS Alumni can post about what they have been doing out in "the real world." After graduating and moving on to more exciting adventures, it is difficult to find the time to maintain contact with the MIIS community.

So, we'd like to invite everyone to join in the MIIS Alumni Forum! Hip hip hooray!

All MIIS Alumni can post anything they've been up to since graduating - jobs, international experiences, volunteer work, etc. Also, current students are welcome to respond to Alumni blog posts.

The way this works is you can respond to this blog, and it will be reviewed by our editorial staff. After we approve it, we will then post your comments to the MIIS Alumni Forum.

We hope this space will allow Alumni to re-establish a connection with the MIIS community. Also, current students have the opportunity to network with MIIS Alumni regarding jobs or other professional resources.

Thank you!
-the Foghorn Staff

January 2008

In 2002, a few soon-to-become-better-friends and I launched the Foghorn on her maiden voyage. The seas were stormy, but we pulled together and stayed afloat.

Before embarking, the longest-standing MIIS professor at that time, Peter Groethe, had encouraged me to look through a yellowing stack of student newspapers come and gone. Flipping through the various renditions, like so many dried-out grad students’ dreams, I saw that all were unique, but none long-lived.

Almost six years later, I am very happy to see that the Foghorn is still blaring! The name’s the same, but the paper’s latest staff has brought newfound energy and professionalism to the endeavour. Not only is the Foghorn now available both in print and in light, but the website has achieved a new level of navigability. The articles are clear, relevant and timely. And best of all, the paper still offers student opinions, news concerning school government, and pieces about the peninsula and the MIIS community itself.

Congratulations to the current staff on a job well done!

P.S. To all students:
Write an article. Come on, go for it!

Following in Niko's comment footsteps, I am also a one-time Editor of The Foghorn and was lucky enough to lead the team who first took it online in 2004 (???is that right, was it really 4 years ago?! wow).

But, I am very happy that some people at MIIS are still pursuing the publication. You have done a great job and utilizing this blog platform is a great idea.

All the best of luck and I hope to see more great things coming from you all.
